Time – The Old Royal Naval College – 12th – 22nd November 2025
For the first time in its history, the Old Royal Naval College was transformed after dark by Time — a spectacular sound and light show by the acclaimed artistic team Luxmuralis. The immersive experience captivated thousands of visitors, reimagining the UNESCO World Heritage Site as a glowing canvas for history, science, and imagination.
Across several evenings, audiences were taken on an unforgettable journey through the human understanding of time — from the birth of the universe to the modern age. Visitors travelled through wormholes, stepped inside the intricate workings of clocks, and encountered spellbinding installations that traced humanity’s relationship with the cosmos.
Inspired by the theories of relativity and H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine, the event combined stunning projections, evocative music, and the grandeur of baroque architecture to create a breathtaking fusion of art and science.
The journey began in the King William Undercroft beneath the Painted Hall and unfolded through the Ripley Tunnel, Queen Mary Undercroft, and Chapel, before spilling out into the Colonnades and Courtyard. Each space revealed a new chapter in the story of time — a blend of light, sound, and emotion that invited visitors to reflect on humanity’s place in the universe.
Although the Painted Hall was not part of the main Time experience, ticket holders were treated to a special addition: Peter Walker’s Connection & Identity art installations, beautifully illuminated after dark.
In a fitting celebration of Greenwich as the home of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), Time offered a poetic voyage through the centuries — illuminating the Old Royal Naval College in a way never seen before. Blending creativity, history, and technology, Luxmuralis once again delivered an unforgettable event that left visitors inspired by the vastness of time and the beauty of the moment.
